I don’t know about you, but I love summer. Like, all capitals, spell it out, L-O-V-E it.
It’s a combination of the laid-back attitude and long, warm days that make summer unbeatable in my book. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I adore vacations (who doesn’t?!) and road trips. And summer is the perfect time for combining those two loves together.
Windows down, music blasting, car snacks and the anticipation of getting wherever we’re going—it’s kind of the best.
Plus, vacations are kind of synonymous with desserts—and I most definitely have all of our desserts planned out ahead of time.
That’s 100% normal, right? 😉
We’re pretty big on ice cream (all of time but especially during summer). I could go on and on about the finer qualities of ice cream, but I’ll spare you the monologue and get straight to the point. The best thing about this cool, creamy and dreamy treat? The fact that you can mix in pretty much anything you want and it tastes ah-mazing!
So if you’re like me and like to pack efficiently, then all of your classic road trip snacks (you know, like Pop Tarts, Graham Crackers, Oreos, and Chips Ahoys) can be mixed in with a little Häagen-Dazs for dessert and you’ve got yourself a fun dessert for every night.
So, let’s break down each recipe. I’ve got four amazing ice cream sundae ideas that utilize easy ingredients you probably already have on hand in your pantry or have on your list to grab for your upcoming vacay.
Firstly, let’s talk about this Strawberry Pop Tart Ice Cream Sundae that’s full of strawberries, sprinkles, and crumbled Strawberry Pop Tarts all mixed together with Haagen Daz Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
The Pop Tarts mixed with the ice cream seriously taste like a piece of pie topped with ice cream and it’s amazing. I wanted to add in some fresh strawberries to pair with the Pop Tarts, but you could easily omit those or substitute a strawberry ice cream sauce. Oh, and whipped cream. Definitely add some whipped cream. 😉
Anyone feel like summer isn’t summer without a s’more?? What about a S’mores Cheesecake Ice Cream Sundae??
A little Häagen-Dazs, some graham cracker crumbles, marshmallows, chocolate, and a homemade cheesecake ice cream sauce, and you’ve got an ice cream that I’m pretty sure summer itself was made for.
Next, we’ve got a Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sundae topped with extra Oreos. I’m extremely partial to waffle cones, especially when pairing it with a classic ice cream such as cookies and cream.
For me, the best part about this semi-homemade cookies and cream ice cream (rather than buying a pre-made version) is the fact you can add as many Oreos you want and you can keep the Oreo pieces as large or small as you want.
Lastly, we’ve got a Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae complete with Chips Ahoy Cookies and whipped cream.
Drizzle with some hot fudge sauce, maybe a few nuts, and you’ve got a cooly chocolatey treat that can’t be beat.
When you have a classic base, like Vanilla Bean Häagen-Dazs, you can mix in whatever you want and customize it however you want. Everyone in the fam can get creative and make their own special dessert, and the best part is that you didn’t have to pack anything out of the ordinary or go to any trouble to make a unique dessert everyone is happy with.
